Uses of LNG

Uses of Natural Gas:

  • Natural gas can be used as a feedstock, ie, can be raw material to manufacture other chemicals such as propane and butane. In Trinidad and Tobago, natural gas is an important part of the production of fertilizers, ammonia and methanol.
  • It is excellent fuel for powering the boilers that create heat for homes and offices buildings in temperate climates since it burns more cleanly than oil and is therefore environment friendly. It is also used in electrical power generation.
  • Like oil, LNG can fulfil a wide range of energy needs. However, it must first be changed back to its gaseous form by heating when it can be used.

Other Uses:

  • Fuel for:
    • stem raising, metal working
    • process heat for cement production
    • transportation e.g. trains, LNG ships, buses
