Usually the LNG is converted back to natural gas, and used as a clean burning fossil fuel in industry, power plants or in homes. As a gas in pressurised tanks, it may be used to fuel cars and other vehicles. It is excellent fuel for heating homes and office buildings in temperate climates since it burns more cleanly than oil and is therefore environmentally friendly. It is also used in electrical power generation.

Natural gas can be used to as feedstock material. In Trinidad and Tobago, natural gas is an important part of the production of fertilisers, ammonia and methanol.
