Grant puts Guaya into Atlantic finals – Preysal, San Francique book their berth

Mickel Grant produced one of the best ever spells in the history of the Atlantic National Primary Schools Cricket League to take his school Guayaguayare RC into the finals of the tournament.

Playing at Honeymoon Park in Tacarigua, Guayaguayare batted first and scored 137 all out in 24.5 overs. Grant was the star of the show, batting 43 and he was ably assisted by Isiah Hyndman with 14 and Ricklon Matthew with 16. Lochmaben RC who made headlines for the first time this season with some amazing wins, then went to work, but their fairytale season came to an end.

Grant, bowling an almost unplayable spell, routed the Lochmaben boys for one of the lowest scores in the history of the tournament. They managed only 20 runs. Grant grabbed seven wickets for just three runs to cop the Player of the Match.

Guayaguayare will now meet Preysal Government in the Boys Finals which take place this Friday (June 17) at Queen’s Park Oval, starting 5pm.

In the Girls Final also this Friday at Queen’s Park, starting 1pm, the girls from Guayaguayare RC will meet their rivals from San Francique Presbyterian.

The Guayaguayare girls were in fine form in their semi-final game against Tobago school Whim AC. The prolific Maria La Foucade was on point, scoring an unbeaten 79 that took Guayaguayare to 131 for three in their allotted 12 overs. Aniaya Roberts forged a very productive partnership with Maria, scoring an unbeaten 21.

The Whim AC girls struggled in reply and were finally bowled out for 68 in nine overs. La Foucade took four wickets for 12 runs, while Keianna McCain nabbed two for six.

The San Francique girls booked their place in the finals thanks to a five-wicket win over Cunaripo Presbyterian. Cunaripo taking first strike made 86 for two in 12 overs. J. Lobain led the fight with an unbeaten 37, while A. Boodram notched 23. The pick of the bowlers for San Francique was Rianna Bajnath with 2/22.

When San Francique took to the crease they lost an early wicket but recovered nicely through the efforts of Abbygale Ragoo 20 not out and Anida Bepath 12, to reaching their winning target of 87 for the loss of five wickets.
